Azulejos, 3965 rue Saint-Dominique, Montréal

After immigrating from the Azores to Canada as children, Ledo’s parents grew up in a Montreal neighbourhood that remains a vibrant hub for the Portuguese community today. After moving to the suburbs to raise a family, Ledo moved back to the area where he spent most of his adult life. When approached to create a tile design for a new housing development in area known as Little Portugal, Ledo immediately knew the direction he wanted to take: Portuguese tile design, better known as azulejos. However, he sought to reinterpret the design through a new lens—slightly abstracted, pixelated, and distinct from the original—serving as a reflection of his identity as a Portuguese Canadian.
Cosmic mural for 5800 Harold, Hollywood, California.
Ledo created a cosmic mural inspired by Art Deco and sci-fi for a new residential building, the 5800 Harold, in Hollywood, California. This was a collaboration with Sid Lee Architecture, creating a Montreal inspired building in this world famous city. The artwork is made with gold leaf and acrylic paint on canvas.
